Inside Mews' $300M round, Greenland's futures & space tourism 🚀

$300M for hospitality tech, Greenland's possible futures, and Blue Origin takes a tourism CEO up

Hi there,

This week, we're skipping the warm-up and going straight to what caught our attention. From a massive funding round in hospitality tech to geopolitical scenarios and a literal trip to space.

FUNDING SPOTLIGHT

Mews secures a $300M investment. They are definitely sitting in “massive round, massive valuation” territory now. Sure it is a great milestone for what Mews has been building, but also counts as a vote of trust for hospitality tech more broadly.

The growth story from being founded in Prague to the powerhouse it’s becoming is impressive. Their platform now powers operations for over 12,500 hotels, covering everything from front desk to housekeeping - and they haven’t been shy about acquisition along the way… 👀

What I keep coming back to, though, is payments. Last year I heard someone from the team describe it as “the hardest part for guests, and the best part for the property”, and… yes, it’s been on my head ever since.

With embedded finance expected to reach $7.2 trillion in size by 2030, it makes sense that Mews putting payments at the core of their strategy. We’ve been talking about “fintech <3 travel” for a while now, so I’m curious to see how they take this further 🍿

Before checking out

Not funding rounds. Not product launches. Not deals. Just things we saw this week that made us think twice…

 đź‡¬đź‡± Different futures for Greenland
Greenland has been in the spotlight this week, with a lot of tension around it. This scenario document from CIFS maps out long-term futures for the island, shaped by climate, politics, and global interests.

🚀 From tours on Earth to a trip to space
No business insight here, but Civitatis founder Alberto Gutiérrez took “experiences” to a new level with a trip to space with Blue Origin. Love to see how some tourism founders really don’t stop at borders :)

See you next week,
Ana
